Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical biological terror, but beneath Together resides a intense contemplation about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their characters, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when Tim and Millie transition from the big city to the country for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and relies on Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the kind of problems that come with long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu at present.
