The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major. Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara. Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet. This marks his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023. The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events. "This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev. "This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her." Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months. His retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was over. Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved service. He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead. The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider. He saved four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory. Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
